£500,000 for Local Charities in 6 years

It is perhaps hard to believe that so many people, particularly the young, need help in what is apparently one of the most affluent parts of the country. Research shows, however, that over 10,000 young people in Surrey are officially “at risk”. One in three women are physically or mentally abused and parts of the county have the highest incidence of alcohol abuse in the UK. And these are only a few of the difficult social issues facing our local society.

As national and local governments cut back, small local charities dedicated to providing support for those who suffer in many different ways, are desperate for financial support. The same applies to charities that provide much needed facilities for people, again particularly the young, who face physical and mental challenges.

Thanks to the continuing generosity of Wisley club members, The Wisley Foundation has been able to provide help. The two major golf events –The Doublet and the Foundation Team Challenge – raised over £90,000 in 2014. This could not have happened without the support of the members, their guests, and club staff. Some members have made individual donations, some have chosen to work alongside the Foundation using their own charitable enterprises, and smaller sums have been raised in “fun” events. Members have provided valuable auction items and many have bid significant sums to acquire these.

The Trustees of the Foundation are deeply grateful for all of this kind consideration. As the Foundation grows so does its reputation as being at the center of social caring in our community. This speaks well of our members and our club.
